Multi-stage Assembly

Assembly operations often inspect work at several points. QMS for Manufacturing gives an Inspector an inspection type, subject reference and scheduled date for each quality check. In-process and final inspections can therefore be reviewed as separate decisions. Linked checks preserve the requirement, observation and result for each inspection.

How Manufacturing QMS is set up for you

Work assignment

A Quality Manager schedules each inspection and assigns an Inspector who can find it in My Inspections.

Stage context

The subject reference identifies what assembly scope is being inspected at that point.

Decision

A Reviewer examines the completed checks and accepts or rejects the inspected scope.

Follow-up

A rejected scope opens a linked Nonconformance, with corrective action tied back to that issue.

Pilot one assembly item that receives both an in-process and a final inspection. Use distinct inspection numbers and subject references that the team can explain. Add the appropriate requirement checks to each inspection. Have an Inspector enter observations, including one failure in the first stage. The Reviewer should find that inspection in the review inbox, reject the failed scope and open the linked issue. Then run a passing final case to confirm the two decisions remain separate.

If the item comes from a named work order and lot, record a Production Inspection Lot against the relevant inspection with the product code and sample information. Add a defect observation only when a defect is actually seen. During the review, follow each reference to make sure it leads to the intended assembly stage. Agree who corrects an incorrectly entered subject or lot reference before the team expands the pilot.
