Reserve eligible stock

Hold free units for a request without promising the same lot twice.

Step by step

  1. Inspect the lot Inventory Clerk

Inventory Clerk checks that the lot belongs to the intended item and location and is available for the request. A quarantined, expired, consumed or blocked lot is not used as eligible free stock.

    • Confirms eligible source
    • Updates Stock lots, Stock items, Storage locations
  2. Calculate free quantity Inventory Clerk

The team compares on-hand units with active held reservations against that lot. The reserve action uses the free result rather than the on-hand number alone.

    • Finds units not already held
    • Updates Stock lots, Stock reservations
  3. Create the hold Inventory Clerk

Inventory Clerk requests the units for the linked stock request. If free eligible stock covers them, the workflow creates a held reservation and writes a recorded operation receipt. The request and lot identify a stable operation key for retries.

    • Holds accepted quantity once
    • Updates Stock reservations, Stock requests, Operation receipts
  4. Resolve a shortfall Inventory Supervisor

The action refuses an excessive hold and writes a failed receipt showing the shortfall. Inventory Supervisor decides whether another eligible lot or a corrected request scope is appropriate.

    • Records failed attempt and next decision
    • Updates Operation receipts, Stock requests
  5. Release on correction Inventory Supervisor

If authorized quantity changes or a request is cancelled, the correction action releases held reservations and restores free stock for other work.

    • Frees earlier held units
    • Updates Stock reservations, Stock requests
