How a Revenue Recognition rollout works

Pilot one period from schedule review through billing and plan approval.

  1. Define the scope

Choose an organization, billing period, representative customers and products, and the people who own each decision.

  2. Load reference records

Bring in customer, product, person and organization identifiers with the correct ownership.

  3. Prepare schedules and invoices

Create dated revenue schedules and link relevant invoice lines to them. Reconcile the customer and service periods.

  4. Rehearse billing

Build a Draft billing run, validate it and post it. Inspect the operation receipt for each transition and a refused repeat.

  5. Rehearse plan review

Enter budget lines and actual amounts, inspect Budget vs Actual, then approve an in review plan and review its decision and receipt.

  6. Open the period

Confirm list access, report totals, evidence links and named follow-up owners before expanding the scope.

What the customer provides

Provide the contract references and files, customer and product lists, billing calendar, invoice history, recognition policy, cost center plan and actuals, and the people authorized to review them. Identify the ledger and payment systems that own final posting and cash confirmation.

Changing it afterwards

Use a later period to introduce more customers or products. Reconcile changed source amounts to the current records before relying on a report. Keep earlier review decisions and operation receipts available when correcting a schedule, plan or billing run. Review the data model before changing reference mappings.
