How a SCM with Cycle Counting rollout works

Set up the stock boundary, rehearse a count and check one complete review cycle.

  1. Set the boundary

Identify the first organization, items, lots, locations and team members.

  2. Assign decisions

Choose who prepares requests, counts, reviews variances and records physical effects.

  3. Rehearse a count

Submit one blind count, record a separate reviewer decision and inspect the resulting stock movement.

  4. Check availability

Add an active reservation and verify how it changes available stock while on hand stays tied to posted movements.

  5. Reconcile

Match operation receipts to the source revision and linked effects; route discrepancies for review.

What the customer provides

Bring item SK us and base units, the lot tracking policy, location codes, organization details and named staff. Select a real example with a count difference and a separate case with an active reservation. Agree who is allowed to decide a variance and what reason and attachment evidence they need. Keep the first operating scope small enough to check the records by hand.

Changing it afterwards

Changing item units, location identity or reviewer assignments after stock history exists needs a planned transition. Preserve posted movement and decision history. Use a new source revision when request scope changes, and trace a correction through a compensating movement when stock has already been posted. Review the result in reports and data model.
