Who it's for

New-product portfolios

An introduction begins with limited direct history. The NPI record keeps the item, launch date, expected peak quantity, ramp duration and status together. It can reference a ramp-up curve, churn curve, similar item and an item whose demand it may displace. That gives Marketing Manager and Demand Planning Manager a concrete set of assumptions to review before the forecast enters consensus.

How SCM with Demand Forecasting is set up for you

Launch shape

Compare a curve's duration and relative monthly weights with the proposed peak.

Comparable item

Use a referenced similar item to ground the opening expectation.

Displacement

Review the existing item named as potentially cannibalized in the same cycle.

Decision history

Record who requested and approved the introduction, then revisit it against actual demand.

Choose one new item and a known comparable product. Set the intended launch month, expected peak and ramp duration. Demand Planning Manager reviews the selected ramp-up curve and its shape points. Demand Planner checks the comparable item's period history and makes the new planning entity with the right region, channel and horizon. If the launch may replace an older item, name that item on the NPI record and include both series in the review.

Submit the introduction for a decision. During consensus, explain the launch amount and any expected displacement separately. Record a meeting decision if a launch slip or lower peak changes the operating plan. Once sales arrive, compare actual quantity with the planned ramp and mark any material miss as an exception. This gives the next cycle a reasoned path from assumptions to observed demand.
