Issue material to a work order

Validate the job, item, units and free stock before posting one material consumption effect.

Step by step

  1. Identify the material Production Operator

Production Operator selects the work order and item, enters the lot and quantity, and records the issue date. Confirm the item unit against the physical pick. Production Planner can help resolve a shortage before the floor commits to the run.

    • Draft issue records the intended consumption
    • Updates Material issues, Items, Work orders
  2. Review the balance Production Operator

Production Operator compares on-hand and reserved quantities for the intended stock. Confirm the location as part of the issuing procedure, especially when the item and lot exist in several places. Resolve the exact balance before allowing posting.

    • Exact stock and free quantity are checked
    • Updates Inventory balances, Items
  3. Submit the issue Production Operator

Production Operator sends the Draft issue for posting. The action checks work order state, same-unit item matching and free stock. A failed check leaves the issue available for correction without consuming stock.

    • Eligibility and quantity checks run
    • Updates Material issues, Work orders, Inventory balances
  4. Confirm the stock effect Production Operator

A successful submission changes the issue to Posted and decrements the exact balance once. Production Operator reads the posting result, and Production Planner can compare the posted quantity with the material available for the job.

    • Draft becomes Posted with one stock decrement
    • Updates Material issues, Inventory balances
  5. Handle an uncertain response Production Planner

If the operator cannot tell whether submission completed, check the issue and resulting balance before another physical pick. Repeating the same posting must retain its existing effect. Follow the agreed correction procedure if the posted material itself was wrong.

    • Existing posting is reconciled before further action
    • Updates Material issues, Inventory balances

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • On-hand stock looks sufficient but part of it is reserved. Compare both quantities before promising the material to the floor.
  • The quantity uses a different unit from the item. Correct the request before attempting to post it.
  • An item and lot resolve to more than one location. Agree the balance selection rather than allowing a pick from whichever row appears first.
