Plan and release production

Turn approved customer demand into released work with a usable production window and an available resource.

Step by step

  1. Review demand Manager

Manager checks the customer order and its item quantities, then approves the commitment under the team's agreed order procedure. Production Planner uses that approved demand as the basis for release and reviews the customer required date before choosing a production window.

    • Customer commitment changes from Draft to Approved
    • Updates Orders, Order lines, Parties
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.
  2. Prepare the work Production Planner

Production Planner creates a Draft work order linked to the product, customer order and resource. Enter a positive planned quantity and both planned dates. Compare the job with existing released work before offering the station to another run.

    • Planned quantity, dates and links are prepared in Draft
    • Updates Work orders, Items
  3. Check station readiness Production Planner

Production Planner confirms the resource is Available. A station in Maintenance or Unavailable needs an operational response before release. Review any Andon event relevant to that readiness decision and confirm the planned interval is feasible.

    • Resource readiness is reviewed before release
    • Updates Resources, Andon events
  4. Authorize release Production Planner

Production Planner authorizes the move from Draft to Released. The release validates the approved order, quantity, dates and resource before committing the status. A failed check leaves the job in planning for correction.

    • Validated work changes from Draft to Released
    • Updates Work orders, Orders, Resources
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.
  5. Hand work to the floor Production Operator

Production Operator finds the released job and prepares the operator assignment. Read the product and quantity back against the job so the assignment and later production interval refer to the intended work.

    • Assignment preparation starts from released work
    • Updates Work orders, Operator assignments

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • The customer order remains Draft even though the floor expects to start. Resolve the approval before trying release again.
  • A familiar resource is still marked Maintenance. Check the station's actual condition and record the correct state before changing the plan.
  • The quantity is positive but belongs to a different product. Compare the work order with the customer's item line during the handoff.
