Meter reading to validated interval

Capture the source reading, derive its consumption period and review the interval before accepting it.

Step by step

  1. Confirm the meter Energy Analyst

Energy Analyst checks the meter number, site, unit and reading mode. Identify whether the incoming value belongs to a Cumulative or Interval source before interpreting it as part of the consumption record.

    • Establish the source, unit and reading mode
    • Updates Meters, Sites
  2. Capture source quality Energy Analyst

Energy Analyst records the reading date, value and quality. Valid, Estimated, Missing and Invalid remain distinct so the reviewer can see where the source requires attention. Confirm the selected meter before submitting the reading.

    • Retain the point reading and quality
    • Updates Meter readings, Meters
  3. Derive the interval Energy Analyst

The reading process validates the input, applies reset-aware cumulative differencing where needed and derives a non-overlapping energy interval. Energy Analyst inspects its period, quantity and unit before the review handoff.

    • Prepare a non-overlapping consumption period
    • Updates Meter readings, Energy intervals, Meters
  4. Validate the quantity Energy Reviewer

Energy Reviewer examines the reading evidence and interval boundaries, then accepts the eligible interval as Validated or marks it Rejected. Configure the review authority and correction practice during setup so received data cannot silently enter the accepted reporting set.

    • Apply the reviewer decision to Received work
    • Updates Energy intervals, Meter readings
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • Wrong reading basis. A cumulative register value should not be treated as interval consumption without the appropriate derivation.
  • Reset confusion. A lower register value needs the agreed reset-handling evidence and rule.
  • Overlapping periods. Accepted consumption must not count the same meter period twice because another submission covers it.
