How a Stock Trading Platform rollout works

Start with one desk's counterparties, accounts and open instructions.

  1. Agree the operating boundary

The system holds instructions, review decisions, orders, executions, evidence, receipts and position snapshots. Order routing, custody, market data and accounting stay in connected systems. The desk decides eligibility, review scope and tolerances.

  2. Map the source data

Agree organizations, counterparties, account and instrument identifiers, and the provider IDs for orders, executions and events.

  3. Configure a bounded pilot

Run one desk for a month: instructions, review, submission, orders, evidence and receipts.

  4. Rehearse the exceptions

A stale-revision decision is refused, an inactive counterparty is refused, a duplicate execution is ignored, an overfill is rejected and a self-approval is refused.

  5. Reconcile and release

Compare open instructions, fills and positions with the old system and providers, get sign-off from the desk manager and agree the rollback window before cut-over.

What the customer provides

  • Organizations, counterparties and their eligibility.
  • Trading accounts with custodian IDs, and the instrument list.
  • Open instructions and working orders with their provider IDs.
  • The latest position snapshots and the people who will use the system.

Changing it afterwards

Use Proto to prepare changes on a branch. Review changed fields, permissions and reports with the desk manager and replay the pilot’s exception cases before release. Past decisions and receipts keep the revision they were made on.
