Cycle count to adjustment

Count scheduled bins, post small variances as adjustments, review large ones and close each count.

Step by step

  1. Schedule Inventory Manager

Inventory Manager schedules counts by zone, bin or product and assigns the counter.

    • Count at Scheduled
    • Updates Cycle counts
  2. Count Warehouse Operator

Warehouse Operator records the counted quantity against the book quantity. The count is Counted.

    • Scheduled → Counted
    • Updates Cycle counts
  3. Post or route Warehouse Operator

A variance within tolerance posts an adjustment movement and the count is Adjusted. A larger variance goes to Pending Review.

    • Counted → Adjusted, or Counted → pending review
    • Updates Cycle counts, Stock movements
  4. Review Inventory Manager

Inventory Manager investigates the large variance, orders a recount or corrects the cause, and approves the adjustment.

    • Pending review → Adjusted
    • Updates Cycle counts, Stock movements
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.
  5. Close Inventory Manager

The count is Closed once the stock is right.

    • Adjusted → Closed
    • Updates Cycle counts, Inventory

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A large variance is written off without finding the cause.
  • Counts happen while picks are still in progress in the bin.
  • The same bin is counted twice and adjusted twice.
