What you can do
Keep the work tied to its source
tax payments hold outbound remittances and inbound payments with their amount, date, method, status and bank reference. A payment can link to a tax registration, customer, notice or return. Treasury Analyst checks that context before using the native release action on a Scheduled payment. The action records a Payment Release operation receipt before setting the payment to Released. Later, Treasury records bank clearance and moves the payment to Reconciled when the reference supports it.
A scheduled outbound payment against an approved notice is a useful rehearsal. The notice identifies the obligation; the payment identifies the amount and method. A mismatch should stay with Treasury while the payment is still Scheduled.
How the work is organized
- Connect the obligation. Treasury Analyst checks the linked notice or return and the registration before release.
- Release with a receipt. The native action records its result and then changes Scheduled to Released.
- Follow clearance. Treasury checks the bank reference and investigates Failed payments before recording reconciliation.
What to agree during setup
Agree which payment methods the team uses and how it obtains a bank reference. Decide who checks the notice or return link, who releases the payment and who records clearance. Check the direction on each payment: an outbound remittance and an inbound customer payment serve different purposes even though both use tax payments.
Rehearse a payment with the wrong obligation link. Treasury should correct the link before release and note the reason in the payment memo. Agree how a failed release result is investigated from its operation receipt and who follows a Released payment that has no bank reference.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Open a Scheduled outbound payment linked to an Approved notice. Treasury Analyst compares the payment amount with the notice balance, checks the tax registration and selects the payment method. Invoke Payment Release Action and inspect its operation receipt before relying on the Released status. The receipt should identify the actor, time and result.
Next, leave a Released payment without a bank reference. Payments Awaiting Clearance keeps it visible for follow-up. When the bank reference arrives, Treasury checks the actual clearance and records Reconciled. If the payment is marked Failed, inspect the receipt and payment memo before rescheduling any attempt. A status change alone is not a substitute for checking the bank evidence.
What your team sees
- Treasury Payment Register — Payment amount, method, date and bank reference in one worklist.
- Payments Awaiting Clearance — Released payments that still need clearance review.
Follow the work through
Read return and remittance for the complete handoff, and period close review for declaration and payment exceptions. Use implementation to rehearse the first operating cycle with your own entity and period.
