Maintenance Manager checks the asset tag, serial number and current service state. Confirm the physical tool before creating a request, especially when similar dies share a storage location.

Describe the work Maintenance Manager

Maintenance Manager records Preventive, Corrective or Inspection work with a description, assigned person and due date. Keep the request in Requested while the scope and authorization are being considered.

Approve scope and permit Maintenance Manager or Safety Permit Issuer

Maintenance Manager approves eligible work and coordinates the required permit decision. Check the permit type, issuer and validity interval against the requested maintenance. Safety Permit Issuer may handle the permit decision where that responsibility has been delegated during setup.

Schedule the job Maintenance Manager

Maintenance Manager confirms the Technician and due date, then moves approved work into Scheduled. Explain any timing constraint imposed by the permit before handing the job to the bench.

And how to keep it from happening.

Wrong asset. A familiar description can hide a different physical tool. Check the tag before approving work that will change its service state.
Expired interval. An Approved permit can still be outside its valid dates. Review timing again when the start moves.
Unclear assignment. Resolve the Technician's person and user mapping before handing over assigned work.
