Operation reconciliation

From pending or failed operation receipts to verified results.

Step by step

  1. Collect the exceptions Operations Analyst

Reconciliation reads operation receipts that are pending, failed or need review.

    • Exception list built
    • Updates Operation receipts
  2. Check the real effect Operations Analyst

For each receipt, the operations analyst checks what was actually saved: a posted balanced journal, an applied payment, a recorded decision or a compensating entry.

    • Saved effects verified
    • Updates Journal entries, Cash applications, Review decisions
  3. Reconcile operations Operations Analyst

A receipt is marked completed only when the expected effect is found. Missing effects stay in the queue with their reason.

    • Receipts completed or kept open
    • Updates Operation receipts
  4. Resolve the rest Operations Analyst or Controller

The analyst sends a missing action again under the same operation key, or escalates it to the controller.

    • Action re-sent or escalated
    • Updates Operation receipts

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A timed-out posting is assumed failed and posted again by hand.
  • A dashboard total counts actions that never actually saved.
  • Failures pile up and are only noticed at period close.
