Readings to energy intervals

Turn each raw meter reading into one validated or rejected energy interval.

Step by step

  1. Capture the reading Energy Analyst

The energy analyst records the reading against its meter with the read time, value and quality flag.

    • Reading stored with its quality flag
    • Updates Meter readings, Meters
  2. Check for a duplicate Energy Analyst

A reading for the same meter and read time as an existing one is treated as a duplicate and does not create a second interval.

    • Duplicate ignored
    • Updates Meter readings
  3. Build the interval Energy Analyst

The reading is converted using the meter's reading mode and unit into one energy interval with a start, an end and an energy quantity, received for validation. It must not overlap another interval on the same meter.

    • One non-overlapping interval received
    • Updates Energy intervals
  4. Validate or reject Energy Analyst

A trustworthy reading produces a validated interval. An invalid, reset or overlapping reading produces rejected coverage instead of zero energy.

    • Interval validated or rejected
    • Updates Energy intervals
  5. Follow up the gaps Energy Analyst

The energy analyst works through rejected coverage and readings flagged estimated, missing or invalid, and agrees the follow-up with the site.

    • Gaps investigated
    • Updates Energy intervals, Meter readings

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • A resent file doubles a day's energy because duplicates were loaded twice.
  • A cumulative meter is read as an interval meter, and every interval shows the running total.
  • A meter reset is counted as negative energy, or as zero, instead of being rejected for review.
  • Missing readings are filled with zeros and the site looks like it had no wind.
