Market prices
A broker quotes against the market every day. Recording the prices seen at the mandis gives the desk a history to check a quote against and lets the analytics show whether the desk’s deals were struck above or below the market. Each entry is one observation: a commodity, a market, a date and the modal, minimum and maximum price per metric ton.

What you can do
Record the day's prices
The Broker records prices from the markets the desk follows, for example the APMC yards where its sellers bring goods. Modal price is the price most trade happened at; minimum and maximum give the day’s range. Each commodity also carries a benchmark price per MT for a quick reference, and its category, unit and HSN code.
- One entry per market and day. Keep a reference for each entry so a repeated observation is easy to spot.
- Same unit as deals. Record prices per metric ton so they compare with deal rates directly.
- Latest first. Latest Prices shows the last thirty days, newest first.
Compare deals with the market
The Trends & Effectiveness dashboard sets each deal’s rate per MT beside the mandi prices for the same commodity and period. A desk whose deals sit well above the modal price may be serving buyers who pay for quality or delivery terms; one consistently below may be leaving brokerage on the table with sellers. The comparison is only as good as the prices recorded, so agree which markets each commodity uses.
Commodity records
Each commodity shows the number of deals and the total volume traded in metric tons, which the overview uses for the commodity trend.
| Field | Use |
|---|---|
| Category | Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds, Spices, Fibre or Sugar, for the trend by category |
| Unit | MT, Quintal or Bale as traded in the market |
| Benchmark price per MT | Reference price for quotes |
| Deals count and total volume | How much of the commodity the desk trades |
What to agree during setup
Agree the markets followed for each commodity, who records prices and how often. Agree how quintal or bale prices are converted to per-MT before entry.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Record a fortnight of prices for two commodities at two markets. Book deals in those commodities and open the trends dashboard to compare their rates with the modal price. Check that a price entered per quintal by mistake stands out against the range.
