Brokerage analytics

A brokerage that keeps its deals in a ledger can say what it earned last month. It usually cannot say which clients pay the best effective rate, which lead sources bring business that pays, which commodities carry the season or which brokers are behind their target. Because every deal, commission line, receipt and market price here is a record with dates, parties and amounts, those questions are answered on dashboards the owner can open each morning.

What you can do

Brokerage Overview

The overview shows deal value, commission booked, the effective brokerage rate, collections and outstanding, with the monthly commission trend by commodity category. It answers whether this month is ahead of last month and where the change came from.

Deal Pipeline

The pipeline shows deals by stage with how long each has been there, the commission expected at each stage and the deliveries due. Deals can be moved between stages from the page; the same invoicing, waiving and settlement rules apply as on the Deal Board.

Client Commission Analysis

This page compares terms and effective commission rates across clients, shows which clients bring the most commission and how concentrated earnings are. A client whose effective rate sits well below its card is usually trading small lots where the minimum applies, or has adjustments on its lines.

Trends & Effectiveness

  • Lead sources. Which sources convert into deals and which pay their brokerage on time.
  • Seasonality. Commission by commodity across the months.
  • Brokers. Each broker’s commission against the monthly target on the broker record.
  • Market. Deal rates per MT against mandi prices.

Commission Ledger

The ledger lists every commission line with its calculation from the client’s rate card, billing status, receipts and receivables aging, for the accounts team and the auditor.

Reading the numbers

Compare the same period before drawing a conclusion. A rise in brokerage can come from volume, from a higher effective rate or from one large deal; open the client and commodity behind the change. Effective rate depends on deal size when minimums apply.

What to agree during setup

Agree each broker’s monthly commission target, the lead source values the desk records on every deal and the markets used for price comparison. Decide which pages the owner reviews weekly and monthly.

Check the handoff on an actual case

After a rehearsal month, open the overview and trace the largest commodity category to its deals. Compare one client’s effective rate on the analysis page with its rate card by hand. Check a broker’s commission against target on the trends page.

What your team sees
