What you can do
Close the interval with usable evidence
Production Operator records work against a work order and an operator identity, with start and end times and separate good and scrap quantities. The interval gives Production Planner a concrete account of the work reported during the run. It also gives Quality Reviewer the output evidence needed for a release decision.
Ending a production interval validates and persists the log, creates or updates a Pending output batch and moves the work order into quality review. The operator checks the resulting state before handing the work over. Production reporting therefore ends with a pending decision about output, even when the floor has finished its assembly activity.
How the work is organized
- Operator identity. A production log references the person who performed the work. Admin maintains the link between that person and their user account so the operator’s personal view resolves to the right records.
- Interval evidence. Start and end times describe the reported production interval. Production Operator checks the interval before ending it, and the planner uses the recorded period when reviewing the run.
- Output quantities. Good and scrap quantities remain separate on the log. The accepted interval feeds a Pending batch and the quality review handoff, where the reviewer assesses whether output is eligible for release.
What to agree during setup
Agree how operators open and close intervals around breaks and shift changes. The same convention should apply across the pilot so that an interval has a clear operating meaning. Decide how the floor corrects an unfinished or mistaken log before the work reaches the reviewer.
Check each operator’s people record and user link. A personal queue is useful when the person recording work can recognize their own entries and the planner can understand who was responsible. Rehearse a handover between operators using the actual sign-in accounts that will be used on the floor.
Agree how good and scrap units are counted for the pilot product. Quality Reviewer should be able to compare those quantities with the physical output presented for review. Keep the lot identity understandable to the people moving the finished material, and check how the batch is created or updated when further valid production is reported.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Use an eligible work order for a short assembly run. Production Operator records a valid interval with 18 good units and 2 scrap units, then ends the interval. Check that the saved log retains those quantities and the intended operator. Open the resulting Pending batch and find the work order in Quality Review Queue.
Ask Quality Reviewer to explain what they would inspect before release. The reported good quantity is part of that discussion, while the scrap remains visible in the production record. Next, try a reversed time interval and confirm that the validation refuses it. Review a repeated end action during the rehearsal and reconcile its batch result before allowing the same procedure on live work.
