Distribution warehouses
Distribution warehouse teams need to identify both the stock available in a location and the requests already committed against it. The Inventory Clerk works from item and bin references, while the Inventory Supervisor decides authorized scope and reviews a proposed placement. Posted movements and receipts explain the resulting balance changes.
How Bin / Location Management is set up for you
Consistent location codes
Use the same bin identity in the location directory, lot records and stock requests. A supervisor should be able to recognize the intended physical area when reading the request.
Reviewed placement
Compare required cubic feet with the capacity recorded on the slotting plan. Agree the allocation rule and review overlapping proposals before committing the same space.
Visible commitments
Examine held reservations before promising a quantity to another request. A shortfall receipt gives the clerk a specific result to investigate when free stock is insufficient.
Traceable corrections
Use the supervisor's correction and reversal actions to handle changed scope or a mistaken posting. Keep the original movement available for later review.

Posted movements and receipts explain the resulting balance changes.
Choose a familiar item and a receiving area with clearly labeled storage bins. Confirm the item's base unit, enter a lot balance and prepare an assigned stock request. Have the supervisor review a linked slotting proposal and the stock scope before posting.
Rehearse an excessive reservation request as well as a valid one. Then execute approved work and compare the posted signed quantity with the lot balance change. Repeat the action to check that the effect occurs only once. Finish with a reversal and a reconciliation check so staff can explain both the ordinary flow and an exception. Use the [location setup module](/bin-location-management/modules/location-setup) to settle the coding convention before expanding the pilot.
