What you can do
Carry the agreement into its operating term
An active contract can contain commitments that someone must deliver after signature. The obligation register holds a code, description, type, due date, recurrence cadence, owner, status, completion date and evidence link. Delivery, reporting, payment milestone and service commitments can be recorded against the agreement they came from. A named owner can see what is open, in progress, completed, overdue or waived.
The contract also holds expiration and renewal dates and whether it auto renews. A renewal record adds its scheduled date, account owner, status, renewal value and closing outcome. These details let the team work a renewal as a decision rather than treating the expiration date as the whole process.
How the work is organized
- Promise ownership. Each obligation points to its contract and a named team member responsible for the work.
- Due work. Due date, status and evidence make the next commitment visible during the term.
- Renewal outcome. The renewal record follows notification and negotiation through a renewed, lost or cancelled result.
The Renewals & Obligation Risk page brings renewals inside the planning window together with obligations past their due dates. Contract Manager and Sales Manager can use that working picture to decide what needs a response. The underlying records still carry the dates, owners and outcomes that explain each item.
What to agree during setup
Decide who creates obligations after execution and who checks them for completeness. Agree how recurrence is represented, what evidence a completed commitment needs and when a waived obligation may be recorded. For renewals, assign an account owner, set the scheduled date and decide who can mark a result renewed or lost. Review the auto renewal selection and contract expiration date together so the team understands the timing of the decision.
Check the handoff on an actual case
An active service order requires a quarterly report and an annual renewal decision. Contract Manager creates a reporting obligation with a due date and owner. The owner starts the work, later records completion and adds an evidence link. As the scheduled renewal date approaches, Sales Manager checks the agreement value, expiration date and auto renewal selection. The account owner records that notice was sent, then moves the renewal into negotiation. When terms are agreed, the owner records the renewed result and closing date. If the deal is lost, the lost reason keeps that outcome explicit.
