What you can do
Confirm the stock effect behind the dock activity
An approved request changes inventory through the stock posting action. The saved movement records the item, location and lot with the quantity and signed quantity. The signed effect changes the lot balance, the request becomes Executed and a recorded operation receipt identifies the outcome for later inspection.
Physical load progress and stock posting need coordinated attention during a cross-dock shift. A vehicle may be ready to leave while the clerk is still checking an uncertain posting response. Use the saved movement and receipt to establish what happened to the quantity before repeating the action or telling the next team that the inventory work is complete.
How the work is organized
- Approved execution. Inventory Clerk runs the stock action against authorized request scope. The selected item, location and lot establish where the quantity effect belongs.
- Repeat handling. A stable source effect identity ties the posting to its request. Repeating the action must find the existing effect instead of changing the lot balance again.
- Compensating reversal. Inventory Supervisor reverses a posted movement through a new movement linked to the original. The balance is corrected while the earlier posting remains available for review.
What to agree during setup
Confirm the sign convention for each receive, move or issue action in the pilot. Agree the meaning of the request’s location references and how the resulting movement identifies the affected lot. Check the physical work against that convention before using it for ordinary dock activity.
Decide how staff respond when an action appears to time out. The existing movement and receipt should be inspected before another attempt. Name the supervisor who can investigate a wrong quantity or location and decide whether the request scope needs correction or a posted effect needs reversal. Preserve the original evidence so the next shift can understand why the balance changed.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Prepare and approve a rehearsal request, then note the starting lot balance. Have the clerk execute the stock action and compare the saved signed quantity with the balance change. Inspect the Executed request and recorded receipt. Ask the Auditor to follow the movement back to the reviewed request and explain the result without relying on the load’s physical state.
Repeat the execution request and verify that the balance is affected only once. Then have the Inventory Supervisor reverse the saved movement. Inspect the compensating record and its reference to the original, and compare the resulting balance with the expected correction. Repeat the reversal and confirm that it returns the same compensation. Use reconciliation to investigate any remaining disagreement with the authorized request quantity.
