Practices with visiting clinicians

A practice using visiting clinicians needs to know who is responsible for a patient during a particular period. Match each visiting clinician to the correct account, professional category and current assignment. Start with People and its User reference, then review clinical privileges and provider assignments for the work the person is expected to perform.

How Dental Practice Management is set up for you

Account identity

Resolve the visiting clinician to the intended Users record before using personal views. Clinical Governance Administrator reviews the person's role title alongside the applicable privilege evidence.

Professional evidence

Check privilege type and its verification evidence with the effective period. Document and Prescribe may have different supporting records. Keep Pending evidence visible until Clinical Governance Administrator has made the verification decision.

Care responsibility

Provider assignments records Patient, Dentist and access purpose with effective dates. Review the Active state and dates together. Patients.assigned dentist is a separate reference that needs its own review when responsibility changes.

Departure handoff

End an assignment when the responsibility ends and inspect unfinished treatment tasks. After ending the assignment, sign in as the clinician and check access to the former patient group.

Pilot a visiting clinician covering a defined patient group and a limited operating period. Include Pending professional evidence, an assignment reaching its end and an unfinished care task requiring a new owner. Ask the governance administrator to explain the verification evidence and the coordinator to explain how the next appointment will be assigned.

Check record access with the clinician's ordinary account before and after the assignment change. Where identity lifecycle management is needed, agree a separate connection and its responsible owner. Keep contracts, rota planning and payroll with the systems that already manage them. Use [Clinical privilege verification](/dental-practice-management/processes/verify-clinical-privileges) and the [permissions guide](/dental-practice-management/roles) to define the operating boundary.
