- Who it's for
- Regional freight fleets
Regional freight fleets
Regional freight teams often hand a load between dispatch shifts while driver activity arrives from a separate logging source. ELD / Hours of Service keeps the duty interval attached to the load being discussed. Dispatcher can follow the movement, while Transport Supervisor checks the submitted activity against its source and the relevant revision.
How ELD / Hours of Service is set up for you
Shift ownership
Give each load a named owner and a recognizable subject. The receiving Dispatcher should be able to find the promised time, actual pickup and current assignment before contacting the departing shift.
Driver commitments
Compare assignment start and end times with the driver's other work. Check eligibility for the intended period and examine the selected vehicle's commitments as part of the same planning decision.
Independent activity review
Submit driver intervals with their start time, duration and source identity. Transport Supervisor records the decision and reason before an approved import is completed through its receipt.
Delivery follow-up
Keep the original promise beside actual delivery. Attach supporting evidence to the correct load so a late arrival can be examined with the operating facts still intact.

Start with a depot transfer that has a clear pickup, recipient and promised delivery time. Select a driver whose roster details can be checked and a vehicle with understandable readiness evidence. Rehearse an overlapping commitment before releasing the assignment.
For the same movement, submit a duty interval that needs a correction and a later interval that can be approved. Ask Auditor to trace the independent decision and the completed import receipt. Include a delayed response so the team practices looking up an existing outcome before trying again.
Keep the first operating cycle small enough for Transport Supervisor to explain every exception. Expand after the team can complete the [load-to-dispatch handoff](/eld-hours-of-service/processes/load-to-dispatch) and trace duty evidence without private notes.
