What you can do
Keep the operating basis clear
A bill of materials states components per explicit output basis. A routing records ordered operations and their work instructions. The warehouse manager uses active versions, a product, a warehouse, a positive planned quantity and a standard cost to prepare a work order. Approval freezes the relevant basis before release.
How the work is organized
Operators record actual operation time, good quantity and scrap. Material issue and return remain linked to the work order. The terminal operation supports an accepted completion; intermediate operation counts do not create finished stock by themselves. Actual work-in-progress cost is allocated to completed output and a separate variance.
- Identity. Keep the source record, entity and accountable person attached to each step.
- Decision. Record the reviewer and the exact scope they accepted before the next action.
- Evidence. Preserve actual quantity, date and correction history when execution differs from the plan.
What to agree during setup
For an assembled ceramic product, agree on the product’s base quantity and each component’s unit before releasing a recipe. Set the work sequence and who records its actual labor. Decide how damaged output is recorded as scrap and which review applies to a variance. Keep approved standards effective by date.
The team should choose one real pilot case and agree on its owner, decision point and exception route. Prepare the source identifiers and opening balances before importing old records. Review access with the person who will perform the work, and make the exception visible to the person who can resolve it.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Rehearse a work order with one partial completion. Compare the required material with actual issue and return, the recorded operation throughput, finished stock and remaining work-in-progress. Confirm that a repeated completion event cannot add the same output again and that close waits for resolved variance or independent finance approval.
Check the final state against the original promise and the accepted source. The reviewer should be able to explain why a partial action left a remainder, which evidence changed it and who approved the next step. Repeat the case after a correction to make sure the original record remains traceable.
What your team sees
- Production schedule — Released and active work with their planned start and end.
- Warehouse availability — Component and output stock in their current locations.

What it keeps track of
Data model- Bill of materials
- Effective ceramic product recipes with explicit output basis.
- BOM components
- Component quantities per explicit output basis, preserving dimensions and allowed loss.
- Routings
- Versioned ceramic process instructions, distinct from delivery routes.
- Routing operations
- Ordered work instructions and declared labour/overhead bases.
- Work orders
- Released bounded ceramic production orders, without plant APS or payroll scope.
- Work order components
- Frozen required input and actual traced issue/return scope.
- Work order operations
- Frozen instructions and assigned actual work.
- Production log
- Actual operation throughput, scrap and labour evidence; intermediate counts do not sum to output.
- Production completions
- Accepted terminal output and WIP cost allocation, once per actual completed scope.
- Work order cost entries
- Immutable WIP debit/credit sources and bounded actual-cost allocation.
- Cost standards
- Entity/product standard per base unit with immutable effective versions.
- Inventory
- Current owned stock by complete identity and custody state; provenance is not a second balance.
Who uses it
Permissions- Warehouse Manager
- Releases and closes production.
- Warehouse Operator
- Records actual work.
- Finance Manager
- Reviews standards and required variance decisions.
- Accountant
- Reconciles work-in-progress.
