What you can do
Assembly and kitting in the operating day
Warehouse Manager plans bounded kitting and repacking against an active recipe. The work order retains its output product, planned quantity, component basis and assigned manager before release.
A Bill Of Materials names the output product and base quantity; components carry their input quantities and allowed planned scrap. The work order connects that recipe to routing, standard cost, source warehouse and, when relevant, an order line. Material issue and completion are separate events. A completion cannot stand in for a missing material movement or an unreviewed cost variance.
How the work is organized
- Prepare. Choose an active recipe, routing, output standard and planned quantity.
- Decide. Warehouse Manager approves the frozen work order before component issue.
- Record. Record component issue, returns and completed output against the work order.
What to agree during setup
Agree the effective recipe version, output basis, units and acceptable scrap before release. Decide who records material returns and how production cost is reviewed. Rehearse a short completion and a residual variance. The manager should be able to trace each completed kit to its component and work history.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A dealer order needs assembled service kits. Warehouse Manager selects the active kit recipe, confirms the planned output quantity and releases the work. Warehouse Operator records component movement and actual completion. If the team completes fewer kits than planned, the remaining work stays open and residual cost is reviewed before closing the order.
At the handoff, the receiving person checks the source record, approval and remaining quantity. The team keeps the exception with its owner until the actual result is recorded.
Before the Warehouse Operator issues a component, compare its reserved lot and custody with the work order. After completion, compare material returned, material consumed and finished output. Warehouse Manager should see the remaining planned quantity and any residual variance on the same work history. Finance Manager reviews a variance before close when the cost cannot be reconciled to the recorded movement. This keeps a short run open for a later completion without treating planned kits as finished stock.
What your team sees
- Kit work schedule — Released work with planned start, end and output quantity.
- Stock available by location — Eligible component stock at the source warehouse.

What it keeps track of
Data model- Bill of materials
- Effective distribution assembly/repacking recipes with explicit output basis.
- BOM components
- Component quantities per explicit output basis, preserving dimensions and allowed loss.
- Work orders
- Released bounded assembly/kitting/repacking, without plant APS or payroll scope.
- Work order components
- Frozen required input and actual traced issue/return scope.
- Work order operations
- Frozen instructions and assigned actual work.
- Production log
- Actual operation throughput, scrap and labour evidence; intermediate counts do not sum to output.
- Production completions
- Accepted terminal output and WIP cost allocation, once per actual completed scope.
- Cost rollups
- Immutable WIP debit/credit sources and bounded actual-cost allocation.
- Products
- Trade goods and assembly outputs; master values do not rewrite transactions.
- Inventory
- Current owned stock by complete identity and custody state; provenance is not a second balance.
Who uses it
Permissions- Warehouse Manager
- Releases and closes kitting work.
- Warehouse Operator
- Records physical issue and completion.
- Finance Manager
- Reviews cost effects where required.
