What you can do

Work from a reviewed recipe

A bill of material names the output product, effective version, output basis and component quantities. A routing identifies the steps used for the work. Warehouse Manager releases a work order against a frozen bill, routing, output standard and positive planned quantity. The release decision belongs to the exact revision, giving operators a stable instruction even if the master recipe changes later.

Work may serve an approved dealer order line or a planned stock need. The order line connection does not make finished quantity appear automatically. Warehouse Operator records actual material use and production entries. Completed output and its cost are distinct from intermediate operation counts, and residual work in progress remains visible until close review.

How the work is organized

  • Technical basis. Warehouse Manager checks effective bill, routing, output product and standard cost before release.
  • Actual work. Warehouse Operator records component consumption and output against the released work order.
  • Close review. Warehouse Manager checks remaining quantity and variance; independent authority addresses a residual variance before close.

What to agree during setup

Agree the output basis and component units for every active recipe. A case-to-unit conversion matters when repacking promotional quantities; an incorrect conversion can make both component use and finished output look plausible while the stock balance is wrong. Set routing steps and standard cost versions before the first work order is released. Decide who can record actual work at each warehouse and who can review a variance.

For a dealer-linked kit, agree whether the demand is for the finished product or its components. Reserve the relevant stock once. Keep held, picked and production custody clear while materials move through the work order. The finished output should enter the appropriate warehouse location only when the production completion has actual evidence.

Check the handoff on an actual case

Use a kit with a reviewed component basis and a planned output quantity. Warehouse Manager submits the work order, checks its bill, routing, standard and manager evidence, then approves release. The operator records one partial component issue and a partial completed output. The remaining planned amount stays open. A second operator entry cannot reuse the same issued material as a fresh stock source.

At the end, compare actual material and output to the planned basis. If a variance remains, the close decision needs independent review. A closed work order retains the released instruction, actual entries, completion and cost history. The dealer order can use the finished kit only after that stock exists in an eligible custody state.

What your team sees

  • Warehouse Availability — Finished product stock available after actual completion.
  • My Pick Tasks — Assigned component or order picks that need physical action.

What it keeps track of

Data model
BO ms
Effective distribution assembly/repacking recipes with explicit output basis.
BOM lines
Component quantities per explicit output basis, preserving dimensions and allowed loss.
Production routings
Versioned assembly/repacking instructions, distinct from delivery routes.
Routing operations
Ordered work instructions and declared labour/overhead bases.
Work orders
Released bounded assembly/kitting/repacking, without plant APS or payroll scope.
Work order materials
Frozen required input and actual traced issue/return scope.
Work order operations
Frozen instructions and assigned actual work.
Production entries
Actual operation throughput, scrap and labour evidence; intermediate counts do not sum to output.
Production completions
Accepted terminal output and WIP cost allocation, once per actual completed scope.
Work order cost entries
Immutable WIP debit/credit sources and bounded actual-cost allocation.
Standard costs
Entity/product standard per base unit with immutable effective versions.
Inventory positions
Current owned stock by complete identity and custody state; provenance is not a second balance.
Stock events
One immutable group of stock movements and the associated journal effect.
