A metals distributor can manage purchased and stocked goods through supplier orders, dealer offers and delivery commitments. Product codes, units, warehouses and lots carry the trade record; customer promises remain tied to accepted order quantities.
Start with one legal entity, a manageable product set and the warehouse that will serve the first dealer order. Load active supplier and dealer records, payment terms, units and the reviewed price basis. Reconcile opening stock so a reservation has a trustworthy available quantity. Take a real order from offer through review, dispatch and invoice; keep the original customer promise beside the actual delivery outcome.
Use a second case that arrives short, ships partially or returns after delivery. The purchasing team should see supplier commitment and actual accepted receipt separately. The warehouse team should see what is available, held or in transit. Finance should be able to trace billed value and cash to the exact order and invoice scope. Check that a reviewer can find the current record and that a preparer cannot substitute their own decision where independent approval is required.
Connections to a bank or carrier need an agreed evidence source and an owner for uncertain acknowledgments. Decide that boundary before go-live, alongside entity currency, tax treatment and period cutoff. Expand to another warehouse or entity only after the pilot stock and financial balances reconcile.
