What you can do
Start from the operating record
An active bill of materials sets the output basis and component quantities; a routing orders the work instructions. The work order freezes those versions, planned output quantity, output product and standard cost at release. This supports a stocked kit or repacked bundle assembled for distribution.
How the work is organized
- Choose the recipe. Warehouse Manager selects active bill of materials and routing versions with an output basis and cost standard.
- Release work. Warehouse Manager reviews the planned quantity and material source before a work order becomes Released.
- Record actuals. Warehouse Operator records issue, return, operation time, scrap and finished output separately.
What to agree during setup
Agree which kit or repacked product will be assembled, its component units and the recipe output basis. Set the routing order and standard cost for the entity. Warehouse Manager should see available components and the planned output before release; a changed recipe needs a new reviewed version.
Start with one work order in one warehouse. Assign each operation to a Warehouse Operator and decide how good output, scrap and unused material are recorded. Finance Manager needs the cost basis and any residual variance before a close exception can be approved.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Warehouse Manager reviews the release. Warehouse Operator records assigned operations, material issue or return, good quantity, scrap and labor evidence. An intermediate operation count is a work fact; completed output has its own accepted record and stock effect.
Closing a work order requires the remaining material and value scope to be resolved. The team can compare planned components with actual consumption and record corrections through their source history. Work order cost entries preserve the basis for material, labor, overhead and completion relief.
Rehearse a kit whose second operation produces fewer good units than planned. Warehouse Operator records material issue, returned components, labor and scrap on their own sources. Warehouse Manager compares completed output with the frozen recipe and resolves the remaining work and cost before close.
What your team sees
- Work Order Schedule — Warehouse Manager sees released work, planned dates and output quantity.
- My Work Operations — Warehouse Operator finds assigned operations and records progress.

What it keeps track of
Data model- Bill of materials
- Effective distribution assembly/repacking recipes with explicit output basis.
- BOM components
- Component quantities per explicit output basis, preserving dimensions and allowed loss.
- Routings
- Versioned assembly/repacking instructions, distinct from delivery routes.
- Routing operations
- Ordered work instructions and declared labour/overhead bases.
- Work orders
- Released bounded assembly/kitting/repacking, without plant APS or payroll scope.
- Work order components
- Frozen required input and actual traced issue/return scope.
- Work order operations
- Frozen instructions and assigned actual work.
- Production log
- Actual operation throughput, scrap and labour evidence; intermediate counts do not sum to output.
- Production completions
- Accepted terminal output and WIP cost allocation, once per actual completed scope.
- Work order cost entries
- Immutable WIP debit/credit sources and bounded actual-cost allocation.
Who uses it
Permissions- Warehouse Manager
- Releases and closes work orders.
- Warehouse Operator
- Records assigned operations and material facts.
- Finance Manager
- Reviews cost exceptions.
