What you can do
Follow the shade and the style
A dye job can finish while the garment team still lacks the size mix it needs. Keep those questions visible together. The dye record carries the yarn lot, recipe reference, intended shade and colorfastness grade against its work order. The size matrix compares required and completed units for each style, size and color. Industry Reviewer examines the dye evidence; Industry Specialist keeps the garment quantities current as accepted production becomes available.
How the work is organized
- Dye preparation. Record the yarn identity and recipe reference before work begins. Move the dye job from Prepared to Dyeing when processing starts, keeping the work order available for the production discussion.
- Shade review. Testing identifies material awaiting review. Industry Reviewer checks the shade and colorfastness evidence against the agreed acceptance criteria before deciding whether the dye job is Released or Held.
- Size balance. Compare required and completed quantities within each style and color. A completed medium size does not fill a shortage in a large size, even when the style total appears sufficient.
What to agree during setup
Agree the yarn naming convention and how staff reconcile that reference with the physical lot. Decide where the recipe reference comes from and which wording the team accepts for a colorfastness grade. Identify the person recording dye evidence and the action used for Industry Reviewer’s release decision. Set the review procedure before the first batch enters Testing.
For garment quantities, agree the reporting point that counts a unit as completed. Use accepted production evidence and a consistent unit for each style. Set a routine for reconciling size totals when the same style is produced across separate jobs.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Rehearse a navy work order whose shade matches the request but whose colorfastness result still needs review. Leave the dye record in Testing while Industry Reviewer examines the result. If the result fails the agreed requirement, keep it Held and discuss the production consequence with Shop Floor Supervisor. The supervisor can then explain why a downstream operation cannot proceed on the original plan.
For the garment rehearsal, set a requirement of 80 medium and 40 large garments in the same style and color. Have the floor team confirm 80 accepted medium garments and 25 accepted large garments. Industry Specialist records those completed quantities in the size matrix, leaving 15 large garments to finish. The team manually reconciles the size counts with accepted garment output across the relevant jobs. Trace the dye job through its work-order reference separately; dyed quantity alone cannot establish how many garments of each size were accepted.
Repeat the exercise after a recipe reference changes. Ask the reviewer to explain the new evidence before releasing the affected dye job. Keep the yarn reference legible so the mill can find the physical material during the review.
