What you can do
Keep the meaning beside the value
Sustainability Analyst inspects metric readings and persisted results in the context of their definitions. A result retains its reporting start and end, dimension, numerator and denominator where relevant, and the operation run that produced it. The metric definition supplies the version and unit needed to interpret the value.
The Overview presents reviewed metric results by unit and an observed emissions-intensity trend. It also brings reporting activity and overdue follow-up into the same operating surface. The team can use that view to identify a question, then inspect the source evidence and result state before drawing a conclusion.
How the work is organized
- Read a comparable window. Compare results for the same metric and dimension across reporting windows that use the same measurement basis. Check the definition version and unit alongside the value. A changed unit or measurement basis needs an explanation before the team treats the difference as a trend.
- Inspect the result state. Calculated, Suppressed and Invalid express different outcomes. Sustainability Analyst reads the reason attached to a suppressed or invalid result and follows it to the source or operation context. A displayed number should not hide an unresolved result state.
- Trace the measured evidence. Follow the reading to its snapshot and the result to its definition and run. Check the numerator and denominator against the reviewed expressions when the metric is a ratio. Sustainability Reviewer examines the evidence and exact source revision supporting the reporting case.
What to agree during setup
Agree which observed metric the team will use for the first comparison and which source supplies its value. Data Steward records the unit and aggregation method. Set the reporting window and dimension convention before placing results from different periods beside one another.
Decide how the team will handle suppressed or invalid outcomes in the reporting discussion. Identify the person who investigates a source problem and the Action Owner responsible for any follow-up. Keep the reviewer aware of changes to a definition version that affect comparability.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Use an emissions-intensity reading supplied by the source for an April rehearsal period. Sustainability Analyst checks its unit and reporting window, then traces the observed value to the corresponding source snapshot. The reviewer should be able to explain what the intensity describes using that evidence.
Compare it with a second period whose definition uses a different denominator basis. The team should identify the difference before describing the values as an improvement or deterioration. Data Steward resolves the measurement interpretation and retains the relevant definition version.
Finally, inspect a result marked Invalid with a recorded reason. Follow the source and run references, assign the unresolved question and keep the result state visible during the reporting discussion. Ask Auditor to trace a usable result and the invalid case through their separate evidence paths.
What your team sees
- Calculated Metric Results — Persisted values with their metric, period and operation run.
- Suppressed and Invalid Results — Results needing interpretation or follow-up with their recorded reasons.
- Metric Reading Windows — Observed values in their unit and source coverage context.
Follow the work through
Use Review and result handoff, followed by Follow-up and execution checks where a result needs attention.
