What you can do
Keep the work connected
A client control review belongs to an assessment and organization. It records client scope, contract requirement, tested-control count, revision and state. Independent Reviewer records a separate decision with source revision, date, reason and reviewer. Approve, Reject and Return are different judgments. A review decision changes the client review state; Assessment Owner remains responsible for the parent assessment outcome.
The client review records the scoped request. The decision record keeps the reviewer, reason and assessed source revision. Assessment status stays separate so a favorable review is not mistaken for closure of all findings.
How the work is organized
- Ownership. The named person on a record is responsible for its next operational step.
- Working state. The recorded state tells colleagues whether preparation, review or follow-up is due.
- Evidence trail. Related records remain attached to the assessment or control that explains them.
What to agree during setup
Agree who prepares the client review and who may decide it. The reviewer should be independent from the preparer. A Return needs a reason that tells the owner which evidence or scope needs another look. Check the assessment revision at decision time; a changed scope requires a fresh judgment. Review attachment visibility before assembling a client package.
In the pilot, choose a real operating period and a small set of named people. Check their membership and duties before entering historical material. Review who may see Internal evidence and who makes the independent decision. Agree how corrections are explained so the next reviewer can follow the record without relying on a private conversation.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Assessment Owner submits a review of project access controls under a client contract requirement. Independent Reviewer examines tests and open findings and returns the review for more evidence. The owner addresses the request and submits a later revision. The next decision records its own reason and revision. Rehearse a stale revision and a missing reason; neither should produce a valid approval or advance the parent assessment.
Have the receiving role open the record rather than relying on a summary sent outside the app. Check the selected organization, owner, dates and links to related work. If the case is returned, record a reason and leave the next action visible. This rehearsal should expose unclear authority before the team uses the same pattern across more engagements.
