What you can do
Review the measured harvest
A harvest belongs to a crop cycle and carries its date, quantity, unit, grade and accepting person. That gives the reviewer a concrete record to inspect before the manager closes the cycle. The cycle’s expected harvest date is planning information; the harvest date and quantity are the recorded outcome. If picking happens more than once, each harvest row should remain linked to the same cycle so the reviewer can see the individual entries.
A field observation may include a value and unit, but it serves scouting and measurement. Review the harvest row when deciding what was actually picked. The reviewer checks the live row and follows its cycle reference to the intended crop and field.
How the work is organized
- Record. Enter the harvest date, measured quantity, unit, grade and linked cycle.
- Review. A named reviewer checks the live harvest record and the cycle it belongs to.
- Close. The manager compares the expected and actual harvest dates and closes the cycle after review.
The accepting person reference is part of the harvest record. Keep the reviewer identity tied to the person record and its user account so a typed name does not stand in for the decision. A quantity should be a real nonnegative measurement in the stated unit, with a grade that the operation understands.
What to agree during setup
Agree the units used for harvested produce and how grades are named. Both are text on the harvest record, so consistent entry matters for later comparison. Decide who may enter the harvest and who accepts it. The reviewer should have access to the cycle and field context, including actual harvest timing, before signing off.
Set a correction procedure for an incorrect quantity or grade. The team should know whether to correct the existing row or enter a separate harvest for another pick. A second row for a data correction can overstate production if it is treated as another physical harvest. Keep the case visible until the reviewer has checked the source measurement.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A grower records the morning pick for a basil cycle with the date, quantity, unit and grade. The harvest reviewer opens the cycle, confirms that it is the intended planting and checks that the harvest date is real. The reviewer compares the quantity and grade with the source measurement and records their identity. The greenhouse manager then updates the actual harvest date on the cycle and decides whether the cycle is ready to close or still has another pick ahead.
Rehearse a harvest entered against the previous planting in the same field. The reviewer must catch the wrong cycle link before acceptance. This is especially important when crop and variety names repeat across plantings.
What your team sees
- Harvest review register — Check dated harvest entries with quantity, grade, cycle and accepting person.
- Harvesting cycles — Compare planned timing with the actual harvest date.
- Crop cycle board — Find cycles still in the harvesting stage.
Follow the work through
Use harvest review to rehearse the decision and crop cycles to see the surrounding work.
