What you can do

A decision needs a conversation trail

The Relationship Owner records a call, meeting, email or task against the opportunity it concerns. Each entry can carry a due date, completion date and outcome. The activity also carries a line number and the opportunity revision, so the sequence of work stays legible when the deal changes.

The activity history matters at qualification and close. A label in the pipeline cannot replace the conversation that justifies it. If a corporate buyer asks for a revised room block, the owner can log the discussion and its outcome before the team changes proposal scope or asks for another review.

How the work is organized

  • Record the event. Pick the activity type and link it to the parent opportunity while that opportunity is open.
  • Describe the outcome. A completed call or meeting says what the buyer agreed, declined or asked the team to do next.
  • Carry the follow-up. Due and completed dates let the owner and manager see which next actions still need attention.

What to agree during setup

Agree which conversations deserve a separate activity and what a useful outcome sentence contains. A meeting record should identify the decision or open question; a task should say what the owner will finish. Decide how quickly the team records an email or call after it happens so the review is based on the current record.

The manager should agree how to use due activities in a weekly pipeline review. The view can show due work, but the owner still decides which buyer conversation matters most. For closed opportunities, use the retained history as evidence rather than adding a new activity to a concluded case.

Check the handoff on an actual case

Open an opportunity for a travel partner and record an introductory call with its outcome. Add a task due before the proposed decision date, then complete it after sending the requested information. Qualify the opportunity and check that the activity history is still linked to the same case and revision.

Next, record a negotiation meeting that changes the buyer’s requested dates. The owner should see the earlier proposal conversation and the newer negotiation outcome in order. The Sales Manager should be able to read the activity while reviewing the case. Try logging an activity after the opportunity is won or lost; the guarded action should refuse it rather than extending an already closed record.

What your team sees

  • Activity due — Calls, meetings, emails and tasks whose due date has arrived, with their parent opportunity and outcome.
  • My open opportunities — The owner returns to the related deal after completing a conversation.

Follow the work through
