What you can do
Keep eligibility and enrollment together
Benefit plans describe a type of coverage, country, employee class, carrier, contribution percentages and effective dates. An employee’s enrollment links that plan to a coverage tier, effective interval, enrollment event and employee and employer contributions. The status distinguishes pending, active, waived and terminated coverage.
That pairing lets HR answer a practical question: which plan was available to a worker in the relevant country and class when the enrollment took effect? Dependents and contribution amounts belong on the enrollment. Access to those details should follow the configured role permissions rather than a broad employee directory.
How the work is organized
- Plan. The plan gives the country, class, coverage type and effective window.
- Enrollment. The employee record identifies the chosen plan, tier, dates, event and contributions.
- Learning. Courses define the catalog; enrollments track progress; training records keep completed outcomes.
Courses have a category, delivery method, duration, competency, mandatory flag and possible certification validity period. Course enrollments carry the employee, course, assignment reason, due date, completion date, score and status. Training records retain the employee, course, provider, completion and expiration dates, certificate URL and validity status.
What to agree during setup
Agree which plans apply to each country and employee class, including effective dates and how a qualifying life event changes coverage. Payroll Admin can view benefit enrollments and should check contributions against the period in which they apply. Admin should settle who records dependent details and who may see them before opening enrollment.
For learning, decide which courses are mandatory and which role changes require new assignments. Agree who assigns courses, records completion and reviews expiring credentials. If you connect a learning provider, reconcile its completion result with the course enrollment and durable training record.
Check the handoff on an actual case
An employee based in Singapore chooses a plan available to their class. Admin checks the plan’s effective dates, records the coverage tier and enrollment event, and reviews the employee and employer contributions. Payroll Admin checks the active enrollment when preparing deductions for the pay period.
The same employee is assigned a mandatory course. L&D Admin reviews the enrollment due date and status. When the course is completed, the completion date and score belong to the enrollment, while the lasting credential belongs to the training record. If the credential approaches expiry, the training record’s date and status make the follow-up visible.
