What you can do

See the work around an employee

Leave requests, timesheets, goals, performance reviews and course enrollments all refer to an employee. They give HR a broader operating picture alongside the dated workforce snapshot. Each record has its own status and date basis. A leave request shows time away; a timesheet shows reported work; a performance review and a training record answer different development questions.

Employee can manage own leave requests, timesheets and goals within the configured self-service scope. HR Business Partner (HRBP) manages goals and performance reviews. L&D Admin manages courses, enrollments and training records. These roles should see only the relevant employee context for their tasks.

How the work is organized

  • Time. Keep a request’s start and end dates separate from a timesheet’s work week.
  • Performance. Connect goals and reviews to the person and performance cycle.
  • Learning. Keep the enrollment outcome and durable training record together.

Leave requests have Draft, Submitted, Approved, Rejected, Cancelled and Taken statuses. Leave balances record accrued, taken, pending and carryover amounts as of a date for an employee and leave type. Timesheets have a week start, week end, status and total hours, with time entries for dated hours. A schedule should draw from the request dates rather than a payroll period.

What to agree during setup

Set the leave types and country or employee-class rules before reviewing balances. Name the approver for requests and timesheets, and decide how a corrected entry is handled after approval. For performance, agree when a cycle opens, who submits each review type and when ratings are released. For learning, agree which courses are mandatory and how expiration dates are maintained on completed training records.

The app stores payroll run and statement records as well. Payroll Admin manages those records and reads upstream time and leave context. A workforce cost discussion can refer to the recorded run totals, but a hiring cost measure has its own definition and source. Do not mix those amounts without an agreed calculation.

Check the handoff on an actual case

Take an employee with a submitted leave request across a week boundary. Check its start and end dates, leave type, named approver and balance. After a decision, inspect the request status and the later timesheet for the affected week. Then look at a goal due in the same period and a training record nearing its expiration date. The records give separate actions to the employee, HR Business Partner (HRBP) and L&D Admin; no single status closes them all.
