What you can do
Compare a provider event with the right instruction
A reconciliation item retains the provider event identifier, occurrence date, amount and financial account. The Independent Finance Reviewer checks it against a confirmed instruction linked to that same account. An exact amount and confirmed occurrence date are required for a match. An event with a different amount or date stays unmatched or becomes an exception for investigation; a close figure is not enough.
Account snapshots preserve the provider’s dated ledger and available balances, with a provider snapshot identifier. Those snapshots give the reviewer an external starting point for a financial account. Execution evidence and instruction account lines explain the local side of the movement. Keeping these records separate helps identify whether the disagreement is in the provider feed, the instruction, the account scope or the timing.
How the work is organized
- Provider source. Balance snapshots and event identifiers preserve the external references.
- Local effect. Confirmed instructions and their debit or credit lines explain the expected account movement.
- Exception review. Items that fail exact matching remain visible until the discrepancy is explained.
What to agree during setup
Define the financial provider’s event identifier, statement date and balance convention for each account. Agree how the team handles late settlements, corrected statements and duplicate provider events. The Independent Finance Reviewer should know where to obtain the provider’s original statement when a balance differs. Rehearse an exact match and both an amount and date mismatch before using the results for an operating close.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A provider reports a settlement for an account owned by a carrier counterparty. The event amount equals a confirmed instruction, but the occurrence date differs from the confirmed date. The reviewer leaves the item unmatched and checks the provider confirmation. A corrected event arrives with the expected date and its source identifier. The reviewer matches that event to the instruction and retains the earlier discrepancy as part of the investigation. A dated balance snapshot then gives the team an external ledger amount to compare with the signed confirmed movements. The account owner and provider reference prevent the movement from being assigned to a similarly named account.
What your team sees
- Reconciliation exceptions — Provider events requiring investigation by account, amount and date.
- Unmatched provider events — Events awaiting an exact linked instruction match.
