Who it's for

Distribution kits

A distributor may sell a bundle that is assembled from several stocked items before dispatch. Kitting & Assembly links the dealer's order to a finished kit, its component bill, the release decision and the stock created by completion. The result gives sales and warehouse teams one quantity story from demand through handoff.

How Kitting & Assembly is set up for you

Defined output

The kit has its own stock item and base unit. Its bill states the component quantity needed for an explicit output basis.

Controlled release

A manager chooses effective bill, route and standard versions before releasing work.

Actual inputs

Component reservations and issues show the quantity claimed and consumed, including unused returns.

Measured output

Operations record good units, scrap and labour, while a separate completion recognizes finished stock.

Dealer delivery

A shipment retains the order line and exact dispatched quantity, with a delivery result for the accepted portion.

A distributor may sell a bundle that is assembled from several stocked items before dispatch. Kitting & Assembly links the dealer's order to a finished kit, its component bill, the release decision and the stock created by completion. The result gives sales and warehouse teams one quantity story from demand through handoff.

Pick one high-volume dealer kit with a stable recipe. Confirm the pack conversion between how suppliers sell components and how the bill counts them. Create a small build tied to a real dealer order line, then compare required components with available stock. Rehearse a short receipt and a partial completion; both should leave the unfinished requirement visible.

Warehouse Manager should choose a destination location for completed kits that is distinct from production custody. Sales Representative can then identify when a quantity is actually available for a dealer promise. If a dealer changes the quantity, preserve the released build basis and review the added scope separately. The [build planning](/kitting-assembly/modules/build-planning) and [fulfillment](/kitting-assembly/modules/fulfillment) pages cover those handoffs.

For a mixed display pack, the team might accept a dealer order for the display unit while buying inserts by carton. A correct unit conversion and bill output basis let the warehouse plan the right number of cartons. The operator records what was used, and the completion records only the packs that passed the terminal step. The shipment should claim no more than the finished quantity.
