Inspection and disposition

Move assigned inspection work into review and record an evidence-based acceptance or rejection.

Step by step

  1. Plan the examination Inspector

Inspector identifies the subject, inspection type and scheduled date. Assign the person responsible and confirm that the linked requirements describe the work they will perform.

    • Identify the work and assigned person
    • Updates Inspections, People
  2. Conduct the assigned checks Inspector

The assigned Inspector moves planned work into progress, records each observation and attaches its evidence. Pass, Fail and not applicable remain distinct results. Check the current revision before submitting the work.

    • Capture observations, evidence and distinct results
    • Updates Inspections, Inspection checks
  3. Submit complete evidence Inspector

Inspector submits the completed inspection for Review. The conduct-inspection action checks the actor, source identity, linked check set and revision. Resolve incomplete or conflicting submissions before asking Quality Approver for a decision.

    • Validate the submission and present it for review
    • Updates Inspections, Inspection checks, People, Users
  4. Decide disposition Quality Approver

Quality Approver examines the requirements and approves acceptance only when the evidence permits it. Failed required checks block acceptance. Rejection creates the linked nonconformance and containment action before the inspection becomes Rejected.

    • Accept the inspection or create the rejection follow-up
    • Updates Inspections, Nonconformances, Corrective actions
ApprovalA person approves before the work moves on.

Where it usually breaks

And how to keep it from happening.

  • The person submitting is not the assigned Inspector. Correct the assignment through the agreed procedure before continuing.
  • A Pending requirement is overlooked because other checks have passed. Review the complete linked check set.
  • A retry creates duplicate corrective work. Retry the original rejection submission and confirm that it returns the same nonconformance and containment action.
  • A rejected inspection has no clear next owner. Follow the linked action into [correction and effectiveness](/label-packaging-compliance/processes/correction-and-effectiveness).
