What you can do

Record money after the event is verified

A claim decision can approve a benefit, but a claim payment records the actual paid amount, date and provider event. The payment points to both the claim and its decision. Verified distinguishes confirmed payment evidence from an unverified entry. The settlement workflow moves an approved claim to Settled only after a unique verified payment matches the approved decision. Staff should check the claim and decision together before interpreting a payment as closure.

A premium receipt serves a different purpose. It records received premium, date, provider event and verification against a policy. Policy issuance and premium collection are separate events. The insurer can trace a carrier-issued policy without treating that as proof that its premium was received, and can inspect a received premium without confusing it with a claim benefit.

How the work is organized

  • Approved benefit. The claim decision states what the insurer authorized for the claim.
  • Paid evidence. The claim payment retains the provider event and amount for settlement.
  • Collected premium. The premium receipt links a verified receipt to the marine policy.

What to agree during setup

Agree which payment provider or finance process supplies authoritative event identifiers. Decide how duplicate provider events are detected and how a failed or reversed payment is investigated. Confirm who reconciles the paid amount with the approved benefit. For premiums, define the source of received funds and how staff mark a receipt verified. Keep currency treatment clear: recorded policy premiums, claim amounts and payment amounts use US dollar fields, while organization currency and effective exchange rates support the wider operating context.

Check the handoff on an actual case

Take an Approved claim with an Approve decision and known benefit. Record a payment with its provider event, paid date and amount, then verify it. Confirm the payment references the same claim and decision and that settlement follows the verified evidence. Repeat the same provider event to check that it cannot create a second settlement. On a separate issued policy, record a premium receipt and verify its event. Read the two trails side by side: the premium receipt belongs to the policy, while the claim payment belongs to an authorized decision.

What your team sees
