Discrete Production
Discrete production teams can use the inspection subject reference to identify a unit or production scope, then add a Production Inspection Lot with work order reference, product code, lot number and sample size. Inspection checks carry requirement results. Defect observations keep affected units against the lot, giving a reviewer context for the acceptance decision.
How Manufacturing QMS is set up for you
At the work order
Agree how the production identifier is copied into the lot record and who confirms the product code.
At inspection
Assign an Inspector and prepare the required checks for incoming, in-process or final work.
At review
The Reviewer reads the check evidence and the lot context before accepting or rejecting the inspected scope.
After a failure
The linked Nonconformance lets the Quality Manager follow containment and corrective action against the original inspection.
Begin with one product code and a work order whose lot identity is easy to verify. Schedule an in-process inspection, record the sampled and total sizes, and enter the check results. Add a defect observation with its code, severity, affected units and observed date. Ask a separate Reviewer to decide the inspection outcome. For a failed scope, follow the linked issue into containment and assign a Corrective Action Owner.
Before wider use, agree what a work order reference and lot number mean in the production system. Rehearse a passing and a failing case so the team can see whether the subject reference, lot record and check evidence lead to the same physical scope. Use [lot and defect capture](/qms-for-manufacturing/processes/lot-defect-capture) to test that relationship, then review the [data model](/qms-for-manufacturing/data-model) when preparing imports.
Features to start with
Nonconformances
Link rejected inspection scope to containment, investigation and disposition work.
Defect Observations
Record defect codes, severity and affected units against production inspection lots.
Inspections
Schedule inspections, capture check results and review the decision on the inspected scope.
Roles on the team
- Inspector
- Records inspection checks, production inspection lots and defect observations for assigned work.
- Reviewer
- Decides whether reviewed inspections are accepted or rejected and opens containment work for failures.
- Quality Manager
- Owns nonconformance disposition and reviews the quality record across operations.
- Corrective Action Owner
- Investigates assigned nonconformances and submits corrective action evidence.
- Admin
- Configures access and maintains people and user records.
