Inspection execution
Inspection execution is where a planned check becomes observed evidence. The Inspector / QC Operator opens an assigned inspection, records measurements against specifications and cites defect codes when the inspected material fails. Quality Manager can review the outcome and related nonconformance.

What you can do
Keep the result tied to its source
An inspection identifies the item, stage, inspection date, source and source reference. Lot and serial numbers can narrow the affected material. Its sample, accept and reject numbers give the inspector a basis for the decision. The inspector records each measured value or text observation against a specification. Pass, fail and marginal result values keep the parameter-level evidence separate from the inspection’s overall outcome.
Defect instances give each observed defect a code, quantity, location and notes. The defect catalog carries severity and category. A failed or conditional inspection triggers a nonconformance report once, and its worst cited defect severity influences the new report. This lets the quality team move from an individual measurement to a controlled issue without losing the source inspection.
The Inspections feature page provides a filtered worklist, inspections by type and record detail. It opens native record forms for edits. An inspector can use it to find a lot, review its stage and open the full record for results. The record’s calibration reference also matters: when equipment is marked out of tolerance, inspections using it on or after the last calibration date are flagged for review.
How the work is organized
- Assigned queue. The inspector starts from work tied to their user record.
- Measurement evidence. Individual results preserve the specification and observed value.
- Defect evidence. Defect instances identify the code and quantity behind a failed outcome.
What to agree during setup
Agree how source references are entered, which inspection type applies to each stage and when a conditional outcome is appropriate. Inspectors should know who reviews the overall disposition. Quality Manager should decide the review procedure for a calibration flag, including how to locate other inspections that used the same instrument.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Open an incoming inspection for a component lot. Record a measured dimension and mark its parameter result. Add a defect instance with quantity and a catalog code. Move the inspection to Fail. Check that a single linked nonconformance report appears with the expected affected item and severity. Revisit the inspection without creating a duplicate report. Then mark its referenced calibration record out of tolerance and check that the inspection is flagged if its date falls in the affected period.
What your team sees
- Open Inspections — Active work showing the item, stage and assigned inspector.
- Failed Inspection Board — Failed and conditional outcomes grouped by status for review.
- My Inspection Worklist — The inspector’s own queue before measurement.
