What you can do
Stock position in daily work
Reservations hold a quantity against an item, location and request. A lot can be linked when the item is lot tracked. Active, Released and Consumed distinguish a held quantity from a resolved one. A posted movement is the record carrying the signed on-hand effect, with the item, location, request and optional lot attached.
A held reservation and a posted movement answer different questions. The reservation says how much is set aside for a request; the movement carries the signed quantity that changes on-hand stock. For a lot-tracked item, the coordinator checks release state and expiry before using the lot. A reversing movement keeps the correction traceable to its original.
How the work is organized
- Check eligibility. Read the item base unit, location and lot release state before recording a hold.
- Hold a quantity. Link an Active reservation to the request, item, location and lot when needed.
- Verify the effect. Read the posted flag, signed quantity and parent on a movement; follow a reversal to the movement it corrects.
What to agree during setup
Agree the base unit of each item, how expiry and lot release are checked, and when a reservation should expire. A lot marked Pending, Quarantined or Blocked needs attention before the team treats it as eligible. For a store request of a lot-tracked item, the coordinator should check the lot code and expiry before choosing a held quantity.
Inventory Coordinator checks quantities and lot eligibility. Inventory Reviewer reconciles the reviewed request with stock evidence. App Administrator maintains item and location identities. Auditor reads posted history.
Check the handoff on an actual case
After execution, compare the movement quantity with the request and the reservation. Read the posted flag and source effect key before treating a movement as part of the stock position. A reversal points to the movement it corrects, keeping the original effect visible for investigation.
For a lot-tracked item needed by a store, compare the lot expiry with the required date and read its release state. A Pending or Quarantined lot is not ready for the intended stock action. If a reservation expires before execution, inspect its state before creating another hold. When stock changes, compare the posted movement with the request and any reversal rather than counting a reservation as on-hand stock.
