What you can do
Stock effects
Stock Movements records signed quantity against a request, item and storage location. It can also carry a lot, occurrence date, unit cost, source effect key and reference to a movement being reversed. Stock Reservations records quantity held for a request at an item and location, with a lot when applicable. The team can inspect these records alongside the request rather than relying on a single availability total.
How the work is organized
- Ownership. Inventory Coordinator and Inventory Reviewer handles the decisions and records in this area; keep the named owner visible on each request.
- References. Follow the organization, item, location and parent request links when checking related work.
- Evidence. Read the current status and revision together with the related decision or effect before a handoff.
The Operations Overview shows on-hand and available stock and highlights negative-availability exceptions. Staff should trace an exception back to the underlying movements, reservations and request before changing another record. A reservation is a claim on quantity, while a posted movement is a recorded stock effect. Use an expired reservation and a movement with a reversal link as examples when teaching reviewers how to read the record trail.
What to agree during setup
Agree who maintains movement records and who checks the sign of quantity for receipts and issues. Decide which stock situations require a lot reference and how reservation expiry is maintained. A reservation has an Active, Released or Consumed state; those meanings should be written down for the operating team. Read source effect keys when comparing related records so repeated effects can be spotted.
Check the handoff on an actual case
For a request with recorded effects, inspect the selected item and destination location. Read the signed quantity and base unit on each posted movement; check the lot where lot tracking applies. If a reservation also exists, compare its quantity and state with the movement. Where a reversal exists, follow its link to the original movement and compare both records before interpreting the balance.
What your team sees
- Posted movements — Read signed stock changes by item and location.
- Active reservations — Check the quantity held against each request.
- Operations Overview — Inspect available stock and exceptions before follow-up.
Follow the work through
Follow the operating process and implementation steps with a real request. Confirm that the item, location and organization references still point to the intended records after each handoff. Use the data model when preparing migration mappings, and bring the team’s actual codes and review authority to the rehearsal.
