What you can do
Keep the quoted items on the opportunity
An opportunity line stores each item name, quantity, unit price, discount and interest type. A line may reference a product for a consistent SKU and list price. The opportunity holds expected value, close date, counterparty and status. Together these records help a Partner Manager prepare a proposal without losing the product basis for a later discussion. Product categories include core products, devices, services, support, training and freight.
The manager checks active products and adds lines in order. Quantity and unit price are recorded on each line; any discount is explicit. After the manager sends the proposal, Submit Proposal logs an email activity, moves the opportunity to Proposal and writes an operation receipt. Later partner conversations can be logged as calls or meetings. The team can compare line scope with expected opportunity value before closing.
How the work is organized
- Named owner. Partner Manager builds and submits the proposal. Sales Operations maintains products and checks the receipt.
- Quoted scope. Keep item lines under the opportunity, with a product reference when a catalog item supplies the SKU.
- Submission evidence. Check the logged email activity and receipt alongside the Proposal stage.
What to agree during setup
Agree who maintains product names, SKU and list prices, and how the team uses item lines when a deal mixes products and services. Decide who can apply a discount and which interest types matter in the first pilot. Define the evidence the team expects before running the proposal submission workflow. Check that the partner account and primary contact are still current when the email goes out. Agree who updates the expected opportunity value after a line changes during negotiation and who checks the submission receipt.
Check the handoff on an actual case
A partner requests a product bundle and training. The manager adds separate opportunity lines for the device and training, each with quantity and unit price. The product reference keeps the device SKU clear. The manager emails the proposal, then the workflow records the email activity and moves the opportunity to Proposal. During negotiation, a discount changes on one line. The manager reviews the updated expected value before the final close outcome.
