What you can do

Operating the module

A work package holds planned quantity, dates, output and the recipe. Materials, tasks and entries capture execution. Completion and cost entries support the close decision.

How the work is organized

  • Define. Warehouse Manager selects an effective recipe, routing, output product and standard cost for the work.
  • Execute. Assigned operators record material issues, task progress and actual completions against the released work order.
  • Close. Warehouse Manager checks remaining material and cost variance before the final decision.

What to agree during setup

Agree which products are kits or repacked goods, the output basis, allowed scrap and the routing sequence. Establish who maintains standard costs and who records actual material. Review shortage and partial-completion handling before promising kit output.

Check the handoff on an actual case

A distributor packs a standard hardware kit for a dealer order. The manager releases a work order with positive output quantity against an effective recipe and routing. An operator records consumed components and partial output. At close the manager reviews residual variance against the released basis. Earlier output and the recipe version remain traceable even if later work uses a new version.

The first completion covers only part of the planned kit quantity. Keep the work order in progress and leave the rest visible. Compare the components actually issued with the frozen recipe and record material returned or scrapped separately. A later recipe change belongs to a new effective version; it must not rewrite the released basis of this order. If the output standard is missing, the manager cannot release the work order.

At close, compare completion quantity, material consumption and cost entries. A residual variance needs an independent decision before closure. The assigned operator records the facts of work; Warehouse Manager decides release and close. Rehearse a component shortage so the team knows whether to wait for a transfer, reduce the next completion or revise the commercial promise through Sales Representative.

Before opening the work, confirm that the output product and standard cost belong to the same entity as the warehouse. A release decision should refer to the frozen recipe and planned quantity. When production is partly complete, Sales Representative should use actual completed stock for a dealer promise. Warehouse Manager keeps unresolved material and cost differences with the work order until close.

What your team sees

  • Assembly Work Schedule — Released work orders with planned start and end dates.
  • Available Stock — Available component stock by location before issue.

Follow the work through

Follow the dealer order from commitment through recorded delivery. Use the supplier purchase when replenishment is needed, and the invoice close to trace the financial handoff. The data model helps your team prepare linked records.

What it keeps track of

Data model
Work packages
Released bounded assembly/kitting/repacking, without plant APS or payroll scope.
BO ms
Effective distribution assembly/repacking recipes with explicit output basis.
BOM lines
Component quantities per explicit output basis, preserving dimensions and allowed loss.
Production routings
Versioned assembly/repacking instructions, distinct from delivery routes.
Routing operations
Ordered work instructions and declared labour/overhead bases.
Tasks
Frozen instructions and assigned actual work.
Work order materials
Frozen required input and actual traced issue/return scope.
Production entries
Actual operation throughput, scrap and labour evidence; intermediate counts do not sum to output.
Production completions
Accepted terminal output and WIP cost allocation, once per actual completed scope.
Work order cost entries
Immutable WIP debit/credit sources and bounded actual-cost allocation.

Who uses it

Permissions
Warehouse Manager
, Warehouse Operator.
The preparer records the work, and the named manager reviews the decision in the relevant entity and warehouse.
