What you can do
Build a schedule without clashes
A fixture is a match between a home team and an away team at a venue, with a name, start and end time and status. A proposed fixture is checked before it is published: the two teams must be different, and neither team nor the venue can already be committed to an overlapping match. Only then is it Scheduled on the league schedule.
On match day the fixture is In Progress. It becomes Completed when its result is confirmed. A match that cannot be played is Postponed or Cancelled.
How the work is organized
- Clash checks on publish. Team and venue overlaps are caught before the schedule goes out.
- Venue as part of the fixture. The venue name sits on each fixture.
- Completion from the result. A fixture completes only when its result is confirmed.
What to agree during setup
List your venues and their availability. Agree match lengths so overlap checks use the right end times. Decide the rules for postponement, such as weather or a pitch closure, and who reschedules. Agree how far ahead the schedule is published.
Check the handoff on an actual case
The League Coordinator builds week three. She schedules Harbor FC against the Eastside Rovers at Riverside Park from 10:00 to 11:45 on Saturday. When she tries to put the Northside Kickers against Westfield United at Riverside Park at 11:00, the venue clash is caught, and she moves it to 12:00.
On Saturday morning heavy rain closes Riverside Park. The coordinator postpones both fixtures and reschedules them for the following Wednesday evening, checking again that no team or the venue is double-booked.
During the pilot, publish a full round of fixtures and deliberately propose one venue clash, one team clash and one fixture with the same team on both sides. Check that all three are caught before publishing, and that a postponed fixture can be rescheduled without leaving the old slot blocked for the venue.
