What you can do
Only confirmed results count
A result records the home and away scores for a fixture, the official who submitted it and the person who confirmed it. It starts as Draft, is Submitted by the official and is Confirmed by the Competition Secretary, who must be independent of the submitting official. A result that is contested is marked Disputed.
Confirming a result completes the fixture and recomputes the standings from confirmed results only, using the season’s scoring policy. Disputed results stay out of the table until they are resolved, so the published table never includes a contested score.
How the work is organized
- Submitted by officials. The match official enters the score after the final whistle.
- Confirmed by someone else. The Competition Secretary confirms, never the submitter.
- Table from confirmed results. Standings use the season’s scoring policy and nothing else.
What to agree during setup
Agree the scoring policy and tie-breakers. Decide how quickly results must be submitted and confirmed after a match. Agree the dispute process: who may dispute, what evidence is needed and who decides.
Check the handoff on an actual case
The referee submits Harbor 2, Rovers 1 on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning the Competition Secretary checks the match report and confirms it. The fixture completes and Harbor gain three points in the table.
The Northside against Westfield result is submitted as 1 to 1, but Westfield’s coach reports that a late goal was wrongly disallowed. The secretary marks the result Disputed. The table excludes the match until the league committee reviews the footage, after which the corrected result is confirmed and the table updates.
During the pilot, submit a round of results, confirm most, dispute one and try to confirm a result as the official who submitted it. Check that the table changes only for confirmed results and matches a hand calculation under the season’s scoring policy.
