What you can do

Follow the employee and the work

An employee records hours against a weekly timesheet and dates each time entry. A separate leave request carries its own start and end dates, leave type and named approver. The reviewer compares the timesheet week or requested leave dates with the employee and available balance before recording a decision.

For a telecommunications team, a field technician may move between service locations, a network engineer may cover an on-call week, and NOC staff may need a dated training record. Use the employee identifier and the linked records to separate these cases. The status points to the next action; the date and owner explain which case it belongs to.

How the work is organized

  • Check the source. Employee enters dated regular or on-call hours under the right weekly timesheet.
  • Keep the dated trail. A leave request has its own start and end dates and leave type; compare it with the employee’s available balance.
  • Review the handoff. The employee named as approver reviews the period, while Admin records the reviewed decision.

What to agree during setup

Agree who reviews each employee’s time and leave, including coverage when a manager is away. Rehearse an on-call week and a leave request that overlaps the same period. The named approver checks the dates and hours. Admin records the decision after review; Payroll Admin reads approved time when preparing the pay period. Test a request that exceeds the available balance.

Use the configured permissions to rehearse access with the record owner and a second person who has read access. Confirm that sensitive employee or pay details are visible only to the people responsible for the work. Write down the evidence the reviewer must check before recording a decision.

Check the handoff on an actual case

Consider this case: an on-call technician records regular and on-call hours before requesting leave. The Employee enters time entries under the weekly Timesheets row and submits it. A separate leave requests row carries start and end dates and an Approver. Payroll Admin can inspect approved time before preparing a payroll period. The team opens the linked records and checks that the employee, date, status and owner agree. If a field changes after review, the responsible person revisits the decision and explains the correction on the relevant record.

Ask another permitted role to open the same case and identify the employee, date, owner and current status. Rehearse an incorrect reference or a record still waiting for review. The responsible owner corrects the record before the next handoff.
