What you can do

No ride runs without a released session

Before guests ride, each ride’s session for the event is checked. The ride operator records the ride, when it was checked, the capacity available for the session and the inspection reference, and attaches the inspection evidence to the event. The readiness record is submitted and frozen for review.

An independent ride operations supervisor releases the session after checking the record against the inspection evidence. They can approve, reject or return it, and each decision is recorded with the reason and the revision reviewed. A session cannot be released without inspection evidence attached to the same event, and the operator who checked the ride cannot release it.

How the work is organized

Ride operators check and submit; supervisors release.

  • Inspection evidence required. Release needs the inspection evidence on the same event.
  • Independent release. The supervisor who releases is not the operator who checked.
  • Capacity per session. Each session records the capacity available, which may be lower than normal.

What to agree during setup

Agree the inspection checks for each ride and what evidence the operator attaches. Agree who may release sessions, how early before opening, and what happens when a ride fails a check mid-day. Prepare examples of a normal release, a release returned for missing evidence, a rejected ride and a ride released at reduced capacity.

Check the handoff on an actual case

At 08:15 the operator checks the log flume, records available capacity and the inspection reference, attaches the signed checklist and submits it. The supervisor reviews and releases it at 08:40. The coaster’s checklist is missing a brake test sign-off, so the supervisor returns it; the operator completes the test and resubmits, and it is released at 09:20, before the park opens at 10:00.

If a ride fails a check mid-day, the operator records a new readiness check for it. The session is not released again until the supervisor reviews that check, so the ride’s history for the day shows when it stopped and when it was cleared.
