How a Manufacturing TMS rollout works
Rehearse a complete plant transport cycle before expanding to other lanes.
Agree the operating boundary
Select the pilot plant, recurring lane and receiving contact. Name the Transport Planner and Dispatcher, then agree the independent Dock Reviewer and the owners of equipment, delivery and freight review.
Map the source records
Resolve organizations, staff, transport partners, drivers and vehicles before importing loads. Check the stop sequence, item quantity convention and document references with the people who will use them.
Configure the handoffs
Agree load planning decisions, dock capacity interpretation and the driver availability check. Configure role access and review how assignment, appointment and load progress are recorded separately.
Rehearse exceptions
Submit an over-capacity dock request, change equipment after a defect, and capture a delivery document with the wrong load reference. Have the responsible roles resolve each case while retaining the earlier evidence.
Reconcile and release
Compare imported records and open commitments with the source. Review operation receipts, decision revisions and freight amounts by currency. Obtain operating-owner acceptance before beginning the next transport cycle.
What the customer provides
- Plant and dock names, capacity basis, operating time convention and receiving contacts.
- Current loads, stop sequences, item and quantity conventions, and delivery promises.
- Driver eligibility information, vehicle readiness, inspection history and open maintenance work.
- Role assignments, review responsibilities and evidence requirements for delivery and freight.
- Access to the external systems selected for the pilot and the person responsible for each connection.
Changing it afterwards
Use Proto to prepare the change and review its effect with the relevant operating owner. Repeat the affected rehearsal before release. A dock-capacity change needs the receiving plant’s agreement; a new financial mapping needs finance review. Preserve the decision context for previously reviewed loads and appointments when applying the revised configuration.
