What you can do
Record what the conversation changed
Relationship activities give an advisor a place to record a call, meeting, email or task against an opportunity. Each activity carries an outcome, with a due date and completion date where relevant. Relationship Owner can explain why an opportunity is ready for qualification or what changed during proposal preparation without relying on an unrecorded conversation.
The activity stays attached to the opportunity. Sales Manager can read it alongside a household assessment and the supporting documents. This matters when a household has several open discussions: the same account name alone does not tell a reviewer which conversation supports the proposed action.
How the work is organized
- Type and outcome. Choose Call, Meeting, Email or Task to describe the work. Write an outcome that explains what was learned or agreed. The activity action requires an outcome, so a blank note cannot stand in for evidence of a completed conversation.
- Timing. Use the due date to identify work scheduled for attention and the completion date to show when it finished. Compare both dates when looking at overdue work. An activity whose due date has passed may already be completed; its outcome and completion date explain the difference.
- Parent and revision. The action records the next line number within the opportunity and the accepted revision. Check the parent before logging the activity. The guarded action refuses new activities on closed opportunities, so capture the final acceptance or loss conversation before closing the customer outcome.
What to agree during setup
Agree how much detail an advisor needs to record for qualification, a proposal discussion and a household review. Use concrete outcomes, such as the household requesting a revised engagement discussion, and retain the supporting material in the opportunity’s evidence. Decide which information belongs in an activity and which belongs in an attached document.
Select a date convention the whole team understands across organization and member time zones. Assign responsibility through the parent opportunity’s Relationship Owner. Email and calendar connections are setup choices: the activity type alone does not connect an inbox or deliver a message. Define any connection separately and verify the resulting activity before relying on it.
Check the handoff on an actual case
Use a fictional call about the Morgan household’s upcoming advisory discussion. Relationship Owner selects the correct opportunity, chooses Call and records the customer’s request as the outcome. A later meeting activity explains the proposal discussion and points the reviewer to the supporting material attached to that opportunity.
Open the due-work list with Sales Manager. Read the due date and completion date together, then follow the parent opportunity to its household review. The manager should be able to explain the assessment without asking the advisor to reconstruct the call. Repeat with an empty outcome and with a closed opportunity to confirm that neither produces a valid new activity.
